I'm a big believer in routinely greasing zerk fittings. I've managed to postpone ADC 285 dryer bearing failures for decades by simply greasing the zerk fittings located on their bearing housings once a year. If your bearing housing doesn't have zerk fittings, there is usually a screw hole already drilled in them for you to screw one in.
Isn't it amazing how so many breakdown issues can be prevented, or at least dramatically cut down if we simply followed the manufacturer's directions?
Routine maintenance is crucial, yet so many of us just wait until something breaks. That is a "reactive" response when we should be working on "pro-active responses," if we want less OOO issues and emergency calls, not to mention big expenses that come up due to neglect of routine maintenance issues.
It's so simple isn't it? However, I do believe that many people are attracted to our industry for the exact opposite reasons... Many still believe that Laundromats "run themselves," so they can keep their "real jobs" or simply lay back and collect the coins.
This is a business, just like any other business. You get out of it what you put in.
Started back in 1976 rehabbing a run down old mat. Only 3 washers were working properly, and only 2 lights out of 30 actually worked. The floor was buckled up from years of water leaks. Some of the machines were ancient, even for way back then. After I renovated it, that store broke-even after 3 months. |
