What are the Keys to Running a Successful Coin Laundry?

Open Dexter Washer Doors

4 Tips to Keep Your Store in the Green

1

Keep it bright- The more light bulbs, the merrier. I have seen many coin laundry owners make the mistake of turning the lights off during the day or removing some light bulbs from the light fixtures. This is a huge mistake. The first thing I do after purchasing a coin laundry is work on the lights. I want every ballast and every light bulb working properly and many times I will add light fixtures to improve the overall lighting. Lights are not very expensive to operate and it is well worth the investment. It improves your street presence and customers feel safe.

2

Keep the equipment working - Coin laundries require regular maintenance on the equipment. Many manufacturers offer free telephone support to help guide you through troubleshooting. Also, local distributors offer service schools teaching store owners how to repair washers and dryers. Another great way to learn how to repair your equipment is to hire an experienced service technician and watch over his shoulder as he repairs your equipment. If you have a great relationship with a mechanic, they might help you troubleshoot a machine over the phone.

3

Keep it clean - In real estate, the phrase is “location, location, location. In the coin laundry industry it’s “clean, clean, clean.” The cleaner the better. I recommend using Sheila Shine on the stainless steel to shine and protect the machines. Clean the soap dishes on a regular basis. The lint for the dryers need to be cleaned out daily. This will help prevent fires and keep the machines working properly. Keep the floors spotless and throw out the trash daily. Clean restrooms are also very important. Women especially appreciate a well taken care of restroom. Most of your customers are women and you need to show them that you care.

4

Keep change in the changer- The change machine needs to be working properly at all times. If the customers cannot get change, they will go down the street to your competitor and do their laundry. If you have only one or two bill changers in your coin laundry, it is worth the investment to add another bill changer. I recommend having at least three or four bill validators in a store, depending on the size. (Some changers have two bill validators)
