Q: What is the difference between retroreflective and diffused sensing?

A: A retroreflective sensor emits a beam toward a special reflector mounted on the opposite side of the sensing zone. An object passing between sensor and reflector breaks the beam and triggers the output suitable for longer distances. A diffused sensor detects the light reflected directly from the target object no reflector needed, but sensing distance is shorter and depends on the reflectivity of the target surface.
