ATC Diversified Ct50/5 replacement part, current transformer 50/5 amp, ATC current transformer industrial control

ATC Diversified Current Transformer (CT) for high-current monitoring applications. A current transformer steps down high primary currents to a standardized 5A secondary output, allowing current monitors, protection relays, and metering devices to measure currents that exceed their direct-wire input ratings.

⚠ Installation Note

Never open-circuit the CT secondary while primary current is flowing. Short-circuit the secondary terminals before disconnecting any wiring from the CT output.

🔍 Application & Benefits

✖ Problems It Solves

  • Motor or load current exceeds the direct-wire rating of a current monitor or relay
  • Need to measure high currents safely without direct connection to monitor terminals
  • Current monitoring required on large conductors that cannot pass through a monitor's sensing window

✓ Key Benefits

  • Steps high primary current down to manageable 5A secondary for monitors and relays
  • Provides electrical isolation between high-current primary and monitoring equipment
  • Available in multiple ratio options (30/5, 50/5, 100/5, 200/5, 1000/5) for different current ranges
  • DIN rail clamp mount available for easy installation on existing conductors

🔧 Installation Overview

  1. Determine the maximum primary current to be measured and select a CT ratio that keeps secondary at or below 5A
  2. Pass the primary conductor through the CT window (or clamp CT around conductor)
  3. Connect CT secondary terminals to the 5A input of the current monitor or relay
  4. Never open-circuit a CT secondary while current is flowing in the primary connect a short across secondary first
  5. Apply power and verify current monitor reads correctly at normal load current

❓ Common Questions

Q: Why must a CT secondary never be open-circuited while energized?

A: With the primary conductor energized, an open-circuited CT secondary develops a very high voltage across its terminals potentially high enough to cause electric shock or damage the CT insulation. Always short-circuit the CT secondary terminals before disconnecting or opening the secondary circuit.
