Q: How is the DIRTMAG different from a standard Y-strainer?

A: A Y-strainer captures only non-ferrous particles above a certain mesh size and requires system shutdown and disassembly to clean. The DIRTMAG™ captures both non-ferrous particles (via mesh) and ferrous iron oxide sludge (via magnet), handles much finer particles (5 microns), and can be serviced under pressure with the system running — no shutdown required.

Q: How often should the DIRTMAG be serviced?

A: Service frequency depends on system condition. On initial commissioning and in the first few months of operation in older or newly-filled systems, monthly blow-down is recommended. In steady-state operation of well-maintained systems, quarterly servicing is typically sufficient. Dark or discolored blow-down water indicates higher debris load and more frequent servicing.
